Polyakova V. І. Gender tolerance of teaching staff: main conceptual approaches to research
Article is devoted to the basic conceptual approaches to the study of gender tolerance of teachers. The basic approaches to understanding the concept of "tolerance" in the humanities are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of approaches to the study of tolerance in psychology such as: psychoanalytic approach, cognitive and behavioral approaches, acmeological approach, humanistic approach etc.
According to the analysis of scientific development of domestic and foreign experts it is concluded that gender tolerance is a personal quality which is manifested in adopting yourself and the other person as a representative of a certain sex, acceptance of self and other gender identity, absence of gender prejudgment in the assessment of personal characteristics a person of the opposite sex, ability to establish a partnership with a person of the opposite sex on the basis of active moral position. At the opposite extreme – gender intolerance based prejudgment on the advantages of one sex against another.
The role of gender tolerance in the work of teachers is shown. Gender tolerance is a one of indicators of gender competence of teachers.
Based on this, the author presents examples of manifestations of gender intolerance in interpersonal relationships teachers with students: different explanations of success and failure of children by gender; orientation of girls on behavior model oriented towards obedience, conformity to social demands etc. These facts are explained on the basis of the theory of causal attribution.
In further studies it is possible to analyze the levels and displays of gender tolerance educators, the psychological conditions of gender tolerance teaching staff in post-graduate teacher education.
