II INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE "PERSONALITY, UNIVERSITY, SOCIETY: INTERACTION IN THE CONDITIONS OF CHANGE" BECAME A MEETING POINT FOR LEADING UKRAINIAN SCIENTISTS
On April 12th, 2023, the research and training staff of Bila Tserkva Institute of Continuing Professional Education, led by their Director Victoria Sydorenko and Natalia Muranova, Vice-rector for scientific, pedagogical, educational work and international relations of "University of Educational Management" of NAES of Ukraine, took part in the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Personality, University, Society: Interaction in Conditions of Change". The conference was organized by the Institute of Higher Education of NAES of Ukraine.
Lee Gibson, Director of the British Council in Ukraine, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech with a report on "Civic University: Development and Strategizing in conditions of Change". In her report, Lee Gibson emphasized that the British Council is ready to provide support to Ukraine not only within the framework of the REDU project, but also in the future.
The main moderator was Svitlana Kalashnikova, head of Revival of Displaced Universities: Strengthening Competitiveness, Support of Communities Project (REDU), adviser to the directorate of the Institute of Higher Education of NAES of Ukraine. Ms. Svitlana presented not only the main idea of the Conference, but also the idea of Civic University, noting that the social mission is a priority for the development of European-level education and Ukrainian universities fulfill it well.
The following hot topics "Higher Education in Ukraine: Changes due to the War", “Strategic Change - Case Studies”, “Building a Stronger Future: Exploring the Benefits, Processes and Challenges of Merging” were presented by leading Ukrainian and foreign scientists, such as: Liliya Hrynevych, the first Vice-rector of the Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University; Evhen Nikolayev, Director of "OsvitAnalytika" Analytical Center of the Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University; Prof. Malcolm Todd, Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Leeds Trinity University; Prof. Catherine O'Connor, Vice-Chancellor for Education and Experience of Leeds Trinity University; Alex Mortby, Vice Principal of The Bedford College Group for Curriculum and Higher Education.
At the end of the first session of the Conference Svitlana Shytikova, Coordinator for National Erasmus+ in Ukraine, demonstratedf opportunities for organizations and alliances for innovation.
Aaron Porter, Deputy Director of Advance HE, opened the second session of the Conference with a presentation on "An Overview of Governance in UK Higher Education and the Conditions for Effective Boards" describing typical structure and composition of a typical UK university governing body and the characteristics of good governance.
“The specifics of university governance: the experience of Ukraine” was presented by Mykhailo Vynnytsky, Vice-president for scientific and educational studies of the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", emphasizing in his report the creation of heterarchy, not hierarchy, as a system where exclusively collegial decisions are made with the focus on the common idea and prevailing "democracy" of management, as well as reputation - trust - autonomy - decentralization of governance.
Svitlana Kalashnikova presented a video about Revival of Displaced Universities: Strengthening Competitiveness, Support of Communities Project (REDU) designed for 2020-2024.
Bila Tserkva Institute of Continuing Professional Education being an institution of higher education displaced from the area of the anti-terrorist operation, it is extremely important to pay attention to the issues and problems of displaced HEIs. We are grateful to the organizers of the Conference for paying close attention to these fundamental issues.
