“EDUCATION FRONT. THE INFLUENCE OF THE WAR ON EDUCATION": PRESS CONFERENCE AND PUBLIC DISCUSSION

On January 27th and 28th, 2023, an online press conference and public discussion as well as a presentation of the results of the study "Educational Front. The Influence of War on Educators" took place with the participation of educators, experts, representatives of relevant state bodies and psychologists.

On behalf of SIHE “University of Educational Management” of NAES of Ukraine the research and training staff led by Nataliya Muranova, Vice-rector for scientific, pedagogical, educational work and international relations, joined the event.

The event was organized by GoGlobal Educational Foundation ("Go Global" NGO) as part of "Urgent EU Support for Civil Society” Project, which is implemented by "ISAR Unity" with the financial support of the European Union. The broadcast of the event was available on the GoGlobal YouTube channel.

GoGlobal is an educational foundation that initiates, pilots and scales projects in the field of education. It unites a community of about 3,000 schools and teachers and 160,000 children.

GoGlobal conducted a study among educators that revealed the underlying sentiments of both teachers and students. Thus, 54% of teachers are in a state of professional burnout, and 75% of schoolchildren have manifestations of stress. The study was conducted by the Gradus research company.

 

Participants of public discussions "Educational front. Unspoken", "Internally and Externally Displaced Students: How to Adapt, How to Return" were: Serhiy Babak - head of the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education; Yevhenia Bliznyuk - founder and director of the Corestone Group and Gradus Research companies; Anna Novosad - co-founder of the Saved Charity Fund, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine (2019-2020); Andrii Golyutyak - director of the Mariupol City Lyceum (TVS); Tetyana Vakulenko - Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Center for Evaluation of the Quality of Education; Valeria Palii - president of the National Psychological Association (NPA); Oksana Matyash - director for Teach for Ukraine; Tetyana Kovryga - director for GoGlobal Educational Foundation; Lyubov Zalyubovska - head of GoGlobal educational programs; representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Moderator of the event: Oksana Nechyporenko - co-founder of GoGlobal.

A series of thematic practical classes was conducted by psychologist and art therapist Victoria Nazarevich ("Color therapy. We treat ourselves"); psychologist, president of the Association of Child Analytical Psychologists. Kateryna Holzberg ("Burnout. How to fight and find strength?").

There were also practical workshops and discussions on the topic: how to motivate students to study in wartime conditions; integrating the development of stress resistance/resilience into lessons; psychological first aid - "must know" for teachers today; how to find and restore your own resource; social-emotional learning: what it is and why it is important right now; acute situations in class: actions of teachers during online and offline learning.
