PARTICIPATION OF UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES IN THE JOINT MEETING OF THE PRESIDIUM OF NAES OF UKRAINE AND THE COMMITTEE OF PEDAGOGICAL SCIENCES OF THE POLISH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
On February 16th, 2024, a joint meeting of the Presidium of National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine and the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences "Higher Education of Ukraine in the conditions of Martial Law and Post-War Reconstruction" took place.
The meeting was opened by Vasyl Kremen, President of NAES of Ukraine, and Agnieszka Cybal-Mihalska, Head of the Pedagogical Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In their congratulatory speeches, they emphasized the urgency of considering issues related to the development of higher education, despite the difficulties of wartime, experienced by displaced universities, the problems of IDPs, as well as damage caused by rocket attacks, the constant threat of destruction of infrastructure, etc.
After discussing the reports and opinions of both sides, the Presidium of NAES of Ukraine and the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences noted the urgent issues in current functioning and development of higher education of Ukraine, in particular the following:
Support for academic mobility of education seekers is organized. For this purpose, the program "Ukrainian Global University" (UGU) was founded with the participation of universities from the USA, the European Union, including dozens of Polish universities, that promotes the admission of Ukrainian youth to these educational institutions, provided that they return to Ukraine after their studies. Only in Poland, according to the Poland Higher Education Students portal, in 2022, 38,478 students received education, and in 2023, their number increased to 47,960. The REDU "Revival of Displaced Universities: Strengthening Competitiveness, Support of Communities" Project and "Strengthening Cooperation between Universities and Communities" EU Erasmus + Project implemented by the Institute of Higher Education of NAES of Ukraine are being quite successful.
SIHE "University of Educational Management" was represented by: Rector Mykola Kyrychenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical, Educational Work and International Relations Nataliya Muranova, Viktoriya Sydorenko, Director of BICPE, Olena Beznos, Head of the Department of Higher Education Monitoring, Licensing and Accreditation, Oksana Dubinina, Professor of the Department of Public Management and Administration.
Nataliya Muranova, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical, Educational Work and International Relations, focused the attention of her colleagues on the long-term cooperation between SIHE "University of Educational Management" of NAES of Ukraine and 14 institutions of higher education of the Republic of Poland. Polish HEIs are reliable international partners in the implementation of educational, scientific and project activities. Prof. Nataliya Muranova emphasized joint multifaceted events that provide opportunities to discuss today's needs and problems, that grew into specific areas of cooperation as a platform for sharing experience and presenting the results of scientific research.
"It is important that within the framework of cooperation between the University of Educational Management and Polish educational institutions, programs of academic exchanges of research and training staff and credit academic mobility for students of higher education are actively developing. These processes contribute to the acquisition of new educational and cultural experience, as well as the development of international cooperation. In recent years, 16 of our higher education graduates have participated in such programs.
Joint projects and research with partner institutions of the Republic of Poland contribute to achieving high results in both science and education today. During the two war years, 8 of our teachers joined scientific efforts for joint research with Polish colleagues. We’d like to note John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin; Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw.
Equally important is the membership of research and training staff of our University in joint scientific councils with Polish partners, in editorial boards of scientific journals and international societies that significantly expands the possibilities of joint publishing activity for us.
And the dual degree program by majors launched jointly with the Vincent Paul Higher School of Social and Natural Sciences in Lublin, especially in such difficult times for us, contributes to the convergence of the two national educational systems and the implementation of the best practices in science and education.
Since 2023, the "Invited Professor" Program has been gaining momentum at the University. Four highly qualified lecturers with knowledge of English and Polish languages were sent directly to Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw," – Nataliya Muranova noted.
The scientists present expressed their sincere gratitude to the leadership and people of Poland, as European partners, for their support and solidarity with Ukraine!
