STRENGTHENING WORLD DEMOCRACY THROUGH EDUCATION
From August 1st to August 6th, 2022, in Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Lyudmila Antonyuk, a senior lecturer of the Department of Professional and Higher Education of CIPE took part in training on interactive methods of teaching "Democracy: Ideas in Practice" Civics Education Course for Professional (Vocational and Technical) Educational Institutions.
The event is organized by the Directorate of Professional Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Ministry of International Affairs of Canada (Global Affairs Canada) and UK aid supported by UK Government.
The participants were greeted by Iryna Shumik, Director General of the Vocational Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
During the trainings, representatives of the twelve pilot regions of Ukraine were introduced to "Democracy: Ideas in Practice" Civics Education Course for Professional (Vocational and Technical) Educational Institutions, tested the interactive methods of teaching the course and went through the 15 steps of creating a student project.
The interactive course "Democracy: Ideas in Practice" was developed jointly by leading Ukrainian and international specialists for Ukrainian context. International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) is convinced that the formation of professional education students’ necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes related to effective (informed, responsible) democratic interaction of citizens in society (this is the main goal of the presented program of civic education) is the basis for democratic and economic prosperity, stability and peace - both in Ukraine and in the whole world. IFES, in close cooperation with national and international partners, educational institutions, government, civil society and experts, will continue to work on achieving these goals based on European standards and echoing sustainable development goals.
