"LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR" WEBINAR WAS HELD WITH MICHAELA SBURNI FROM AUSTRIA WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF UKRAINIAN-AUSTRIAN "LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR" PROJECT

On October 17th, 2023, a webinar was presented by Michaela Sburni from Austria, speaker and expert of Ukrainian-Austrian "Leadership and Management in Conditions of War” Project. The event was organized and supported by Dominik Eisenmann, Education Attaché of Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Ukraine, the Commissioner for Education of the Ministry of Education, Science and Research of Austria, and OeAD (Austrian Service for International Cooperation in the Field of Education and Research).

It was attended by representatives of SIHE "University of Educational Management": Nataliya Muranova, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical, Educational Work and International Affairs, Larisa Olifira, Deputy Director of Central Institute of Postgraduate Education, Larisa Sergeeva, Head of the Department of Professional and Higher Education of CIPE and Olga Prosina, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Adult Education.

Focus issues were delegation and distribution of power in organizations, as well as methods of creating common way of thinking in a team to bring organizations together as effectively as possible in crisis situations.

One of the key aspects of the webinar was to emphasize that the traditional model of the leader, based on disciplinary and directive powers, does not meet the new challenges and becomes ineffective in the conditions of modern crisis situations. Instead, lateral leadership, based on trust, mutual understanding and a shared way of thinking, becomes more important. Such a leader relies on his/her own authority, expertise and networking to strengthen his/her informal power.

Webinar participants, together with colleagues from Odesa Academy of Continuing Education, Vinnytsia Academy of Continuing Education, Kyiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education of Pedagogical Personnel, and Zakarpattia Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, had the opportunity within the framework of group work to discuss examples of lateral management (leadership) in organizations, as well as chances and risks related to the introduction of lateral leadership, delegation and distribution of powers. Discussion also covered the topic of opportunities and the need for involvement and empowerment in organizations, as well as the prerequisites that must be met for the successful implementation of power delegation.

We are sincerely grateful to the organizers of the webinar, our Austrian partners and the speaker for the practical tools and innovative experience that are extremely important and relevant for ensuring the viability and development of education in the conditions of war. Also, we sincerely thank all participants for their trusting, interesting and productive communication!
